Leadership Team

  • General Manager

    Zach Moon has served as General Manager since February 2022; coming from CSI’s majority shareholder company Nucor Corporation based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

    Zach began his career with Nucor in 1998 at Nucor-Yamato Steel in Operations and progressed to Casting Supervisor in 2008 and Melting Supervisor in 2013. Zach transferred to Nucor Steel Berkeley in 2015 as LMF Day Supervisor, in 2016 was promoted to Beam Mill Manager and in 2018 accepted the position of Hot Mill Manager. Zach was promoted to General Manager at Nucor-JFE Steel Mexico, a 50/50 joint venture company between Nucor and JFE Steel based in Silao, Guanajuato in central Mexico in 2019. In 2021, Zach took responsibility overseeing Nucor’s greenfield tube mill being constructed in Gallatin Kentucky as well as their Trinity tube mill in Trinity Alabama.

    Zach graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and then went on to pursue his Masters of Science in Operations Management at the University of Arkansas.

  • Director, Commercial

    Ricardo Bernardes has served as Commercial Director (formerly titled EVP, Commercial) since January 2010.

    From 2003 to 2009, he served as Chief Financial Officer at California Steel Industries. From 1995 to 2003, he worked at RBS Group (Brazil), a regional multimedia company, most recently as the Executive Director of Business Development. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of the RBS Broadcasting Division, and in other positions of financial and strategic business responsibilities. From 1989 to 1995 he worked at Booz Allen and Hamilton Brazil, an international management and technology consulting firm, where he worked primarily with steel companies in Latin America, and also in business segments such as aerospace, equipment manufacture and automotive. His previous work experience also includes positions in the Production Planning and Cost Analysis departments of Siderurgica Riograndense (a steel mill of Gerdau Group) in Brazil.

    Mr. Bernardes graduated from Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and from University of California, Los Angeles, with a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance.

  • Director, Operations & Quality

    Scott Starr has served as Operations & Quality Director (formerly titled EVP, Operations) since August 2016. He joined CSI in 1992, where he has served as General Manager, Operations and Manager, Cold Rolling & Galvanizing Operations, in addition to positions in the metallurgical quality and operations departments.

    Mr. Starr graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering and from the University of California, Irvine with a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

  • Director, Controller

    Francisco Peres has served as Controller Director (formerly titled EVP, Finance & Administration) since January 2021. He joined CSI in 2018, where he has served as Treasury and Credit Risk Manager and most recently as Controller. From 2016 to 2018, he worked at Vale S.A. of Brazil, one of CSI’s two shareholding companies, serving as Budget and Performance Manager and prior to that served as Financial Specialist from 2011 to 2016.

    In 2011, he worked as a consultant for global interdealer broker, ICAP (Brazil), as the Finance and Strategic Planning Coordinator. His previous professional experience also includes working at an asset management company structuring and managing private equity and credit funds, structuring financial products for clients and financial valuation to support clients during mergers and acquisitions. He has also served as Controller Coordinator for Banco Prosper (Brazil), responsible for managing profit and loss (P&L), risk control and interface with auditors and regulators.

    Francisco graduated from the Universidade Federal Fluminense with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with additional education in finance, valuation and accounting at Chicago Booth, Instituto Brasiliero de Mercado de Capitas (IBMEC) and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
